about
One evening after spending an hour or two watching the soaps on TV with my Nan and listening to her curse under her breath 'Oh He is such a Horror Hair!' (There is a character in Eastenders who she particularly loathes) I asked her "What does Horror Hair even mean?". She paused and responded "I don't actually know, can't remember where I first heard the word". When I got myself home, I sat at the piano and I started to write about what a 'Horror Hair' actually is. When I write a song, it is not for me and I like to keep my writing accessible and open for interpretation. But if someone were to ask me what a Horror Hair is to me, I would tell them it is anxiety and panic. Uncontrollable, unpredictable, wild and well....horrifying. An untamed, frantic nuisance at the back of my mind, which I didn't talk about but tried my best to keep in check by avoiding circumstances which might trigger it. I was able to successfully do this for about a year or two, but little did I know it was a little nuisance which grew and grew, until one day he invited his cousin along 'Panic'. Now panic, is a little different to anxiety, you aren't necessarily aware of it and it does not reside and take up space. Panic shows up out of no where and demands your attention and complete focus, physically taking control of your body and stripping away your peace....however, I am aware of these two characters and I know their tricks. I took all this energy and everything I have learnt about them and put it into Horror Hair, everyone has demons and I hope that you use this song to kick them into submission. (Strictly metaphorically speaking)
[Anxiety and panic are so hard to describe and if you know these two, remember that roughly 1 in 9 people (In Ireland alone) will experience an anxiety disorder in their lifetime. You aren't going to always feel like this, I promise.]
Fast forward a few weeks later, I got a call from Steve at Sound Training Music Academy telling me I had been chosen as one of the winners for TilT 2021 (As you can imagine, I was delighted!) I was able to take Horror Hair to the studio and make it what it is today, thanks to the amazing talented musicians and students that worked on the song with me. Thanks in no particular order:

lyrics
i'd never do that to you
What's your excuse for being so hurtful
I'd never do that to you
Used to think I was the reason why you'd do the things you'd do
But looking in the mirror i can finally see the truth
Chorus:
You are a horror hair
Just tryna' get inside my head
Think you are so dangerous
Welcome to my flaming lair
Verse 2:
Made me look a fool others would laugh as they'd walk by
Never asked for much of anything just someone to be kind
I know that your short sited
You wore glasses all the time
Your jokes were never funny
When you made other boys cry
When you made other boys cry
When you made other boys cry
Your joke's were never funny
I'd never do that to you
I'd never do that to you!
Chorus:
You are a horror hair just tryna get in side my head
think you are so dangerous
welcome to my flaming lair x2
You are a!
